Wines By Geoff Hardy
After joining the family’s wine business Thomas Hardy & Sons in 1975, Geoff completed his diploma in wine production in 1977. In 1980, Geoff and fellow viticulturist Ian Leask purchased a vineyard in McLaren Vale.
The perfect location for producing cool climate grapes in the Adelaide Hills was found. He planted the vineyard in 1987 and named it K1, because this unique site was the first commercial planting of vines in the Kuitpo region. Since then, Geoff has been involved in planting of 3,000+ hectares of vines, and consulting to over 200 different vineyards in Australia, France and Italy.
In 2012 and 2018, Shane, the wine maker of the winery, was named Australian Winemaker of the Year by Australia’s well known Winestate Magazine. Shane played an important role in earning the company’s five red star rating in James Halliday’s Wine Companion, a top rating awarded to 10% of Australian wineries only. In 2012 and 2014, Wines by Geoff Hardy were also awarded Australian Wine Company of the Year (Winestate Magazine), an award based on individual wine scores throughout the year. Today, Geoff continues the 160-year old family tradition, making GMH grow steadily in the world.
